Insuring Peace of Mind
Medicare Supplement plans, sometimes referred as Medigap provide peace of mind. Original Medicare Parts A & B pay first. The Medicare Supplement you choose will help pick up much or all of the remaining approved Medicare costs. If you age into Medicare before 1/1/2020, Plan F is the most comprehensive plan. If you age in after 1/1/2020, Plan G is the most comprehensive and you will have some cost sharing. There are some great alternative plans to F & G, most notably Plan N and High Deductible G. High deductible G is the perfect choice for those torn between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplements.
Why Medicare Supplements vs Medicare Advantage?
Can I change my Medicare Supplement?
This is the MOST common misconception I encounter. You can shop Medicare Supplement plans anytime during the year. The kicker; outside the initial 6 month open enrollment window (Part B effective date) or a special election period, you will be asked medical questions and might not qualify. Unfortunately, some people could be with one plan for life depending on health. Therefore, it's important to pick the right plan and not the cheapest. If you make a change, always make sure the new company approves you before canceling your existing policy. If it's your initial enrollment period or a guaranteed issue situation, (turning 65, leaving group coverage or another special election option), there will be no underwriting or health questions asked.
If healthy enough, you can save $100's to $1000's annually. You will see increases in premiums as you age, so shopping plans can is beneficial. Changing carriers will provide the exact same coverage, better coverage or possibly a little less coverage depending on plan choice. If you have Plan F, I highly recommend looking at Plan G. You will not sacrifice coverage and I have seen significant savings. I mentioned earlier, a few carriers offer Value Added Benefits (gym, vision, dental, hearing discounts). A free gym membership can be a $10-$40 monthly value. If you do decide to make a switch, NEVER cancel your current plan until your new plan is approved and effective.
I am not opposed to Medicare Advantage Part C plans. Some people simply can't afford Medicare Supplements. However, make sure you understand Medicare Supplement High Deductible G before determining you can't afford one (blog below). I have seen greater satisfaction with Medicare Supplement clients not having to navigate every medical move that Advantage plans require. Especially as my clients age and require more care and increased costs. The biggest problems they have encountered is skilled nursing care and getting approvals to continue.

Ameritas PPO plans have coverage starting day 1 and a dentist network exceeding 500,000 Nationwide. I did a blog that goes into more detail about each option. Available in most states. If you enter a zip code and a plan does not appear, they do not offer coverage in that area.
Delta Dental PPO is one of the better known carriers and they provide excellent networks and quality plans. It's always best to utilize in-network providers for the best savings.
Dental Care Plus group has a 6 month waiting period on basic services and a 12 month wait on major services. You will not see a more comprehensive basic service coverage with any other plan. What many companies deem a Major service, DCPG has it under Basic. Please contact me for rates & details. One of the best network of dentists to be found in OH, KY, & IN.
Dental charges are Usual and customary for the area where such expenses are incurred. You are responsible for any coinsurance and the required deductible. It is important to note that if you have a PPO plan and choose to go to a non-network provider, your out-of-pocket costs will be based on the Usual & Customary charge. Anything your dentist might charge over that fee is your responsibility. With an HMO, you MUST use Dentists in the network.
Long Term Care is an important part of retirement planning. Medicare does not cover Long Term Care. If you're looking for coverage to protect assets in retirement, a long term care plan is the solution. In this blog, I go into more detail about the options below for long term care planning.

Never cancel your current policy until your new policy is effective. Any changes to your health prior to coverage taking place needs to be reported to the insurance company, which may result in a policy not being issued.
The insurance company compensates me by helping you find a plan. Most importantly, I will never sell a policy based off an incentive or higher commission. I am a one person agency, you always get me when you call, text or email. I will not sell, solicit or share your information with any outside sources other than what may be involved with applying for coverage with a carrier and their privacy practices.
